A unique feature of the curriculum is the Oral Literacy Enrichment Program (OLEP). Designed by the school’s founder, this program was developed to honor oral cultural traditions while improving student achievement. The program provides explicit strategies for students to develop fluency, make cross-curricular connections and effectively deliver information orally. Each grade level has a particular focus on a different aspect of oral literacy including choral reading, reader’s theater, poetry performance (spoken word), creative dramatics, mock trial and debate. The program culminates with a yearly showcase that will highlight the best of our students’ oral literacy performances.
